With the New Year less than twelve hours away, we are officially getting rid of the old and making room for what’s next to come.
If your year has been as exciting as mine in the realms of dating, traveling and living the good life, then you too may be wondering “where do I go from here”? once the New Year arrives.
2018 has led me to believe that I am ready for “the one”.
“The one” career path that will speak to my soul and catapult me out of this rut that I’ve been in for the past few months. “The one” connection that will change the way in which I write for the rest of my life, and “The one” man that’ll explore this world with me through love, adventure, and commitment, without me having to dim my light in the process.
But how exactly will “The one” find me? Or I find it? Here are 9 resolutions for healthier relationships in 2019.
1. Doing meaningful things together
When it comes to hobbies and free-time activities, do you and your significant other do them together, or separately? In order to strengthen your relationship connection in the new year, choosing an activity to do together will create a sense of intimacy and vulnerability between the two of you.
For singles, doing something that is meaningful to you will also create a stronger foundation of growing interest and independence. Try volunteering your time to a local organization, taking up a new hobby, or even strengthening a skill that you’ve always possed.
2. Prioritize sex
Whether you are single or in a committed relationship, finding the time to have sex can becoming daunting if schedules conflict, cycles are on, or if there is simply no one to have sex with.
Becoming comfortable with your body and acknowledging its needs, are the first of many steps into making healthier decisions in the New Year. Studies have shown that people who have more sex are ultimately happier, and overall healthier than those of us who do not.
Prioritizing your sex life (actually creating one), can lead to great things in 2019. You’d be surprised by what you’ll discover.
3. Re-building friendships
Throughout the years, I’ve been granted the gift of friendships that have helped shaped me into the woman that I am today. And with a new year approaching, I continue to share memorable moments with some amazing women beside me.
For some, 2018 has been filled with revelations of broken relationships and false bonds that has everyone “cutting people off”, year after year, after year. My advice for that is, if your choosing the right people in your life, then there will be no need to cut anyone off.
Good people are good for the soul, cherish them, nurture them, build with these special people.
In order to grow and start a new, we have to appreciate the ones who have been in our corner.
I’ve recently started spending more time with my girlfriends who live miles away from me and I appreciate our friendships even more than before. It is never to late to re-build on previously established friendships. Time is of the essence.
3. Making time to travel
This year has been filled with adventure! From trips to Iceland, to seeing the trails of Fort Washington, I’ve truly had one exciting year!
If you haven’t experienced the world of travel single or coupled, 2019 is the time to start. Being out on your own or traveling with a group of friends will allow you the opportunity to see cities and countries in an entirely different light.
Worried about the expense of traveling? Here are a few helpful tips that will have you booking your first trip in no time.
4. Learning something new together
Building bonds all 2019 should be the mantra if you haven’t seen the patterning quite yet.
Those in a relationship should be working together to make the relationship feel fresh and new. Singles should be flocking towards exciting experiences and getting out of your comfort zone.
Go out and take a cooking class, learn a new language, learn about stocks and bonds together or separately.
5. Living in the present
Being present in a time filled with distractions can be tough as technology becomes more advanced and relationship building has been reduced to texting and swiping right.
Once the ball drops, moving towards a more “present” lifestyle will reduce stress and enhance emotional well-being in more ways than one. We spend so much of our time trying to move from one thing to the next when all we need to do is stop and smell the roses.
6. Incorporating a fitness routine
Let’s cut the b.s and do it right in 2019.
If the gym isn’t your thing, try being more active by taking up yoga, walking more often, and changing your eating habits to reap the benefits of a healthier you.
7. Taking a leap of faith
Entrepreneurship is on the rise with more and more people quitting their 9-5 jobs and taking a leap of faith when it comes to jump-starting a business venture.
Although I do no advise leaving a job without a back up plan, I do believe in people doing what feels right to them. If you are tired of how your life has shaped out to be, take 2019 as a chance to get things right, your way.
8. Choosing to put yourself first
Selflessness can be a beautiful way of showing the world your heart, but it is also the quickest way to drain yourself of unhealthy interactions if you do not put yourself first from time to time.
I’ve been on the sharp end of being labeled “selfish” and “inconsiderate” however, I no longer view those words a negative.
I am selfish with my time and space, I am inconsiderate when I need to consider my well-being and I will not apologize for that.
Taking a step away from others feelings and managing your own will have you jumping into the New Year with a fresher perspective on life.
9. Forgive and forget
There’s a form of transparency that comes with building relationships and taking on new challenges that can be difficult if you haven’t mastered the ability to forgive those who have hurt you.
With a new year there’s a chance to get things right and grow into a better version of yourself. Taking the next steps in doing so will do you some justice.
Although there is no concrete way in knowing what is the right path to choose in the New Year, you now have a guide in navigating into new thought process and cultivating through successful relationships with yourself and others.
